ABOUT
medium,
rare gallery + studio is an ARI (Artist Run Initiative), 100m from
Redfern Station in the heart of Sydney's emerging arts and cultural scene.
Formerly a shoe factory, WWII dance hall and for 40 years, the Acropolis men's
club, the space has a unique character and distinctive features including
an incredible 1950's bar across the back, and beautiful New York Loft
style windows across the front giving it real character - it's not just
another white box.
Since 2003 people know medium, rare as a place where interesting
things happen, where you're welcome to experiment, make art or just come
along to share in the experience. We like the idea of providing a space
for artists across many mediums to show their work and be part of a community.
We support emerging, experimental and avant-garde artists of all persuasions.
Performance art, live art and other performative genres are a particular
specialty of ours.
In essence, we like to think of medium, rare as a quirky, slightly
senile, old aunty looking after a community where folk can create, develop,
observe and generally have a good ol' time!
